Tango Games studio is mainly known for their third-person horror game, The Evil Within series. Their latest game has almost nothing similar to their previous game, except some elements of horror that can’t be counted as scary. Ghostwire: Tokyo is a first-person action game set in an empty Tokyo where the people have been disappeared, and spirits known as Visitors have taken over the city. Ghostwire: Tokyo is quite a unique game and has its own identity, but still, some games share the similar vibe and elements as Ghostwire. Here are 10 games to play if you like Ghostwire: Tokyo.

Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus is the third and last installment of the Metro series. Due to the nuclear war and the rise of demons as a consequence of that, Earth has become inhabitable, making it raw and lonely. Seeing Tokyo without its famous crowded areas is quite unique and lonely as well, just like Metro games. Metro Exodus is filled with many beautiful landscapes, wild but beautiful, alongside some fun and engaging combats with altered creatures and humans. You would be surprised to see the similarities between Exodus and Ghostwire: Tokyo once you play it.

Dying Light

No one would expect that Dying Light would become one of the best games made in 2015. The game is filled with many side activities and areas to clear and explore. Like Ghostwire: Tokyo, you will often find yourself fighting enemies and zombies in close combat situations. Although Dying Light’s setting is not as bright and colorful as Ghostwire, it has its own unique taste in style and construction. If you really enjoyed the combats of Ghostwire: Tokyo, playing Dying Light would also be a pleasure.

Silent Hill Series

Feeling lonely in a city always represented as one of the most crowded places on earth is scary, especially now that we’ve all seen the world in isolation. The Silent Hill series, especially Silent Hill 2, is one of the best games that shows the true horror of loneliness and not understanding truly by others. Although Ghostwire is not considered a horror, a trace of the Japanese game-making style can be seen in both games. Their insane focus on little details is quite extraordinary. Silent Hill series is an action horror third-person shooter game mostly focused on psychological horror and urban legends.

Control

Remedy Entertainment is mostly known for its unique and great storytelling in video games, mostly for Max Payne and Alan Wake. Control is their latest art piece released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. The game is the son of Quantum Break and Alan Wake, making it one of the most unique and mind-blowing experiences you can find. Just like Ghostwire: Tokyo, the main character of Control has supernatural abilities like telekinesis. Both games have their unique share of mystery that players would unravel by finishing the main story and finding extra details in notes scattered on the map. You can even say Control is the third-person version of Ghostwire: Tokyo but set in a mysterious huge office instead of Tokyo.

BioShock

BioShock is the closest game in terms of having similar attributes to Ghostwire: Tokyo. BioShock is a first-person shooter with supernatural elements like telekinesis and electricity. Players have the option of only using guns or plasma or a mixture of both. The game is a loose adaptation of Ayan Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, a novel with elements of philosophy and politics. In the case of the story, there are many differences between the games, but the gameplay of BioShock and Ghostwire: Tokyo is very much like each other. BioShock is definitely one of the best games ever made. Whether you are searching for a game like Ghostwire or not, play this game.

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days is not the best game ever made nor a guilty pleasure. It is a harsh game in every way, but that is the charm of Kane and Lynch 2. The game is set in Shanghai, China, with a similar atmosphere and city design to Ghostwire. It’s a third-person shooter game telling the story four years after the first game’s events. There is a neon-like design style to Ghostwire that will also find in Kane and Lynch 2, but as beautiful as that game. If you are looking for a game with a harsh story and even harsher gameplay, with a similar set design to Ghostwire: Tokyo, Kane and Lynch 2 is the best option for you.

Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 2 defines relaxing and enjoying every moment of slaying enemies with a sharp katana. Shadow Warrior 2 is a first-person action shooter game where players take the role of Lo Wang, a mercenary mastered with sword and deadly aim. Since the game’s story is related to Yakuza, there is a similar Asian art style between Shadow Warrior 2 and Ghostwire: Tokyo. There are no supernatural elements in Shadow Warrior, but its engaging and fun combat style can keep you hooked until the end.

Cyberpunk 2077

As much as Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghostwire: Tokyo seem distant, they have their own unique similarities. The biggest is a megacity surrounded by hundreds of skyscrapers lightened by neon. Like Ghostwire, CDPR‘s latest action RPG game uses a first-person perspective when the player is not driving. Players can create their character and choose a background that suits them best, and start their journey in the brutal world of Night City. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the closest games to Ghostwire: Tokyo you can play in terms of set design.

Singularity

Singularity is one of the underappreciated games published by Activision. It’s a first-person shooter with horror elements that players can use supernatural powers like time control with a machine called Time Manipulative Device. Even though the story and setting of Ghostwire and Singularity don’t match perfectly, you would definitely enjoy the combat system of the game, which is filled with many guns and powers you can use.

Prey

Bethesda is known for its unique style and games, but Arkane Studio’s Prey might be their most unique game. In Ghostwire: Tokyo, we mostly encounter spirits we need to take care of. The situation is similar in Prey, but instead of spirits, you will find a goo-like alien that can take the shape of anything. Prey is a mixture of RPG, action, first-person shooter, and Metroidvania style, making it a unique package of action games filled with great context and a combat system that needs to be explored.
