The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is under hot water once again for his snubs for the 2023 Golden Globes. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has tried to make changes to its image. The only thing is, its nominations in the directing category are lacking many accomplished female directors. Sarah Polley for Women Talking, Gina Prince-Bythewood for The Woman King, and Charlotte Wells for Aftersun are just some of the snubs. It’s not because these films don’t match up with the others. The intentional snubs of female directors for the 2023 Golden Globes, shows that this organization has a lot of work to still do. These films have received critical acclaim and accolades at other award shows, but strangely not this one. The 10 Best Picture nominees don’t include one director that’s a woman. Avatar: The Way of Water, The Fabelmans, and Elvis are among the films for Best Director.

The Work by the Directors Sarah Polley, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and the Other Snubbed Directors Deserve Recognition

Women Talking and The Woman King received nominations in other categories. The 2023 Golden Globes snubs the work done by their directors. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association came under fire initially when it was revealed it didn’t have any black voters among its ranks. They have nominated female directors in the past, but the work was not worth it this year. At least Sarah Polley, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Charlotte Wells, and Chinonye Chukwu continue their work even if it doesn’t receive the accolades of their male counterparts. The Sarah Polley film Women Talking was a runner-up for the Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award and received critical acclaim. The Woman King (Gina Prince-Bythewood) not only did well at the box office but reived critical acclaim.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has always been incredibly limited with the film it acknowledges. The 2023 Golden Globe directing snubs don’t come as a surprise, but it’s always a disappointment.
