Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out a little over a week ago, and we’ve been loving every minute we’ve spent with it. It’s been the perfect game for the current climate. New Horizons is a gorgeous game filled with amazing small details and features that have truly elevated the Animal Crossing experience.

Fans old and new have been marveling over some of the minor but gorgeous details present in the game. There are tons of features that have made the game a joy to play every day, but here are a few we genuinely love.

1.) Fans affect plants

It’s a small detail, sure. But if you place a fan near a plant, you’ll notice that the leaves will blow around. It can really help make your living spaces feel more alive, and it’s an adorable detail that hasn’t been present in previous games. While a lot of furniture across the Animal Crossing series has had small or interesting interactions, it’s one of the first instances of one piece of furniture directly affecting the other.

2.) There are contrails whenever someone visits

If you play with friends, you may have noticed trails in the sky whenever someone arrives or leaves. They’ll also be there whenever you return after visiting somebody. These are contrails from the airplane that flies over your island. They’ll slowly dissipate and fade over time, too! While it’s a small feature, it’s cool to see visible signs of everybody’s comings and goings. They look especially great on a clear day when they’re at their most visible.

3.) You can turn tank lights on or off

If you’ve adorned your house with any fish or bugs, you can interact with their tanks to turn the lights on or off. It’s a great way of seeing your critters in greater detail. It’s a neat little addition and looks great at night time when you turn your house lights off. Turning your tank light on is also useful if you don’t have another light source available in your room!

4.) Villagers will sing along to your music

Animal Crossing characters singing isn’t new to the series. It was first added into the spin-off game Happy Home Designer for the Nintendo 3DS. The feature was popularized when a video of Isabelle singing along to Bubblegum K.K. surfaced online. It was also present in the mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and now in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Now with the introduction of the exterior decorating mechanic in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you might want to place a stereo somewhere outside. If your villagers walk past the stereo, they make take a moment to stop and sing along to whatever tune is playing. You can also find your villagers chilling in the plaza or wandering around your island singing along. Here’s a video of sheep villager Wendy jamming out to K.K. Disco.

It’s one of the most adorable features added into Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and one that gives even more personality to your villagers.

5.) You can use a toilet to empty your stomach (yes, really)

While in previous games, toilets were nothing more than decoration, in New Horizons, they actually serve a purpose. If you’ve eaten too much fruit (which gives you the strength to shovel up trees and break rocks), hop on a toilet. It’ll empty your bowels along with a message saying ‘and that takes care of that!’

It’s a humorous little addition, one which has probably had the most attention amongst fans and news publications. It also has the additional benefit of being a really nifty feature if you want to procure resources from a rock without smashing it apart.

MORE HOT TIP if u sit on the toilet u can poop out all of your power (but you cannot cancel it) #AnimalCrossing #ACNH #NintendoSwitch pic.twitter.com/UeKtivs7yz

6.) Villagers will dress for the occasion

By far, one of our favorite small details, villagers will change their outfits based on their activity. You may find them rocking a tracksuit jacket while lifting weights or stretching. If it’s raining, they’ll don a raincoat with a comically small rainhat.

But perhaps the cutest is when you visit a villager’s house shortly before their bedtime. They’ll be wearing an adorable striped pajama set with a small pom-pom topped hat. Not only is a good indicator of when your villager is about to hit the hay, but it’s also an endearing addition to the series.
