This Halloween, a brand new art book will be released featuring art from horror author H.P. Lovecraft. Free League Publishing and Design Studio Press are teaming up to create the artbook surrounding Lovecraft’s book The Call of Cthulhu.
With the most recent rendition of the tale releasing on Nintendo Switch. The artbook will include more than 60 pages of works of art from French artist François Baranger. So, while you may know the story or have played the games or RPG, you can soon witness the horror come to life through Baranger’s twisted yet breathtaking art. The book was made possible through Kickstarter after being backed by 1,745 people.
H.P. Lovecraft wrote The Call of Cthulhu in 1926 as a short story. The work was first published in Weird Tales two years later in 1928, where it became an absolute classic and staple for horror fiction from then on.
However, like many famous artists and writers, Lovecraft only became popular after his lifetime. Lovecraft’s stories revolved around the unexplained, occult, and cosmic horror and followed cryptids with the most famous of them being the tentacled god-like Cthulhu.
François Baranger is an artist and illustrator known for his works on Harry Potter, The Clash of the Titans, and Beauty and the Beast. He also was responsible for the artwork featured in Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.
The Call of Cthulhu, illustrated by Baranger is available for pre-order through Free League Publishing and Design Studio Press. Copies will release October 31 all across the world.
