New Mafia Game:  What We Know So Far

The confirmation of a new Mafia game came from the Mafia 20th anniversary interview, which featured Hangar 13 General Manager Roman Hladík, and Head of Production/Media Director Tomáš Hřebíček. Aside from recounting the franchise’s history, Hladík made the official confirmation when asked about what the team is currently working on.

“I’m happy to confirm we’ve started work on an all-new Mafia project!” Hladík said. “While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories.”

The production of a new Mafia game, or Mafia 4, has been in floating around for some time now, back in May of this year. It claimed the game would be built in Unreal Engine 5 rather than the proprietary engine used for the previous entries and that it might actually be a prequel rather than a continuation of the current trilogy.

The series – which received a remake, Mafia: The Definitive Edition, in 2020, had its story stretches from the 1930s to the 1960s and jumps between time periods, so this would not be the first time this has happened.

“While it’s a few years away and we can’t share anything more right now, we’re really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories,” Hladík continued.

The original Mafia was released in 2002 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC and will also be available for free on Steam from September 1-5 to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
