After being subject to delays like countless other films, A Quiet Place Part II has been a long-awaited sequel to the original fan favorite, A Quiet Place. Now, over a year after the projected March 2020 release and two weeks away from the May 2021 new anticipated release date, Paramount Pictures has released the final trailer.

It’s been relatively quiet leading to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend release, with the last footage having been released back in January 2020, so the new trailer serves as a light in the dark for the many fans anticipating the release of this flick.

Opening with a flashback to when Lee Abbott (John Krasinski)  was still alive, the final trailer immediately tugs at heartstrings. Lee is seen going about his normal, loud life, and provides a stark contrast to what we know is the A Quiet Place “new normal.” He carefreely rips a produce bag off the spool, footsteps clipping loudly against the tile floors as he walks past the fateful toy rocket, and carries his bag of noisy oranges to the counter. At this moment, news flashing desperately on the screen above the pharmacist, Lee first discovers something is very wrong.

In the next moment in Paramount’s final trailer, we flash forward to Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) with her signature shotgun, newborn baby at her hip, and her foot still bandaged from the cringe-inducing nail-and-staircase scene from the first film (I personally thought this was the scariest part of the whole movie, even though the monsters themselves are absolutely terrifying). After we get reacquainted with the horrific world of A Quiet Place, we are thrown into a montage of terror as we fly back and forth from flashbacks of past normalcy to the first attacks of the invasion, to Evelyn kneeling heart-breakingly in front of the makeshift grave of since-passed, Lee.

Though filled with spine-chilling suspense, violence, and grief, the central theme of A Quiet Place Part II shines through in the final trailer — Hope. Two new characters, played by Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou, have virtually given up all hope of survival. That is until they meet the Abbott family and their remarkable daughter, Regan. Armed with the bravery of their new ally, Evelyn, and the ingenuity of Regan’s discovered weapon, maybe there is hope for survival after all?

Nerdy Nugget: According to IMDb, John Krasinski admits that he didn’t originally want to be involved in the sequel, A Quiet Place Part II. But after some convincing meetings, he was reportedly “Jedi mind tricked” into signing on to the sequel.
