A Resident Evil series is coming to Netflix.

After months of rumors surrounding a new original program on the streaming giant, the company finally confirmed the whispers. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that it appears we’re going to have to wait a bit for any real information. What we do now is that this show is not going to be so much a cinematic tale of the one of the video games, as a story that will be based on the broader universe of RE.

The Resident Evil series was teased using the official Netflix Twitter account, showing the image of a script and a caption.

The company followed with another tweet soon after telling everyone the Resident Evil series is going to be eight, one-hour episodes. The show will be helmed by Andrew Dabb, who also worked on Supernatural.

Netflix also said the first two installments will be helmed by Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead, The Journey Is the Destination) for now, there isn’t any information on when the show is going to be arriving. It almost assuredly won’t be here until 2021 at the earliest with a better than decent chance it won’t be until 2022.

The Resident Evil universe appears to be getting quite a boost in the coming years.

A reboot movie is arriving at some point in the near future. Resident Evil 8 is also launching in 2021.

The series could be a nice capper on the forward momentum.

Back in April of this year, rumblings started all over again about just what Netflix had up its sleeve. The talk back then was the Resident Evil series was going to expand on the existing universe.

If the show focuses on the Wesker children and their return to Racoon City, then that appears true. With showrunners and directors in place, it shouldn’t be too long before the cast is named.
