Marathoning a single JRPG in one sitting is one thing, but 11 games? And without sleep? Well, a Japanese YouTube streamer that goes by Akino Channel (or あきのちゃんねる) has just managed to beat all the main entries of the Dragon Quest series by staying awake for more than 85 hours and 15 minutes today.
Akino didn’t play the game in release order though. He played through Dragon Quest 7 to 11 first since he thought compared to earlier entries they are much longer to beat and it would be better to clear those when he’s still “sober.” Meanwhile, he saved Dragon Quest 6 for last mostly because it’s his favorite entry in the series. He also occasionally is seen drinking energy drinks and installed (a rather annoying) text-to-speech to his chat to help him stay conscious while going through this living hell.
- Dragon Quest 7: 16 hours.
- DQ 8: 10 hours.
- DQ 9: 11 hours.
- DQ 10: 4 hours, but only version 1.0 contents since it’s an online game.
- DQ 11: 7 hours.
- DQ 1: 2 hours.
- DQ 2: 5 hours.
- DQ 3: 5 hours.
- DQ 4: 8 hours.
- DQ 5: 8 hours.
- DQ 6: 9 hours.
Fans and watchers alike donated at least up to 150,000 yen (around $1,300) after Akino completed his quest. This wasn’t Akino’s first attempt though. The Japanese streamer had actually tried it three times in total. He streamed his first attempt to finish all 11 games back on February 9. However, after 83 hours of staying awake, frustratedly he decided to call it quits. Akino then tried again on March 16. In his second attempt, it took him 91 hours before he ends up falling asleep in the middle of his Dragon Quest 6 run. He expected his third attempt to take at least 100 hours.
