The Turok franchise will be seeing a new release this month, but in a form that very few people likely expected. The game is titled Turok: Escape from Lost Valley, and rather than being another violent first-person-shooter, the game will instead be a very cute looking isometric shooter with a chibi art style.

Turok: Escape from Lost Valley is the creation of indie studio Pillow Pig Games, a relatively unheard of studio who got the chance to develop the game through a GameDev contest held by Universal to facilitate the creation of new, interesting takes on their existing properties such as Back to the Future, Voltron, and of course Turok.  Escape from Lost Valley is a bloodless, much more welcoming take on the classic shooter franchise, though it appears to still be following many of the established mechanics of the previous games while adding its own.

The game is still a shooter though, a much less frantic one, and will involve Turok and his ally Andar journeying through the mysterious Lost Valley on a quest to survive this new and unfamiliar land. Weapon choice is still key, as the player is thrown into one combat scenario after the other, including massive boss fights, all the while swapping between the right bows and other armaments to take on each challenge. The game’s Steam description has more to say, claiming that:

Turok: Escape from Lost Valley is set to release on Steam on July 25th.
