Mary Carmack-Altwies pushed back on accusations of sabotage on the Rust film set. Carmack-Altwies, the Santa Fe District Attorney handling the case, clarified in an interview with Good Morning America this past week. According to Deadline, the attorneys for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the on-set armorer at the time when Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, and wounded writer of Rust, Joel Souza, are now investigating if someone put a live round in the box of dummy rounds that was intended to sabotage the set.
Although the Santa Fe DA could not speak to how live rounds ended up in a box that was intended for dummy rounds only, she did mention that where they came from and why they are the most important things in this ongoing investigation. She would go on to add:
The Santa Fe DA is also looking into Gutierrez-Reed’s qualifications for a very treacherous position, trying to figure out how someone with her experience got such a position.
Potential Sabotage
Even if it might be assumed that Gutierrez-Reed loaded the gun, Carmack-Altwies would not confirm who actually loaded, but did confirm that they know who loaded the Colt .45 before the fatal accident happened, but if the defense attorneys are investigating if this was sabotage on the Rust film set, then it does beg the question; was this sabotage meant to harm Hannah Gutierrez-Reed? Alec Baldwin? Or even possibly Halyna Hutchins or possibly Joel Souza?
Alec Baldwin recently came out and spoke about how studios should also be hiring police officers to have on set whenever guns with dummy rounds are being used.
