Calling all fans of the shenanigans of 90s Jim Carrey: a third Ace Ventura movie is reportedly in development with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers. Distributor Park Circus recently held an interview focusing on Morgan Creek, the studio that produced the original two movies. When asked about what projects would be coming from the studio next, Morgan Creek dropped the news.

Pat Casey and Josh Miller wrote 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog, which found much more success than previous video game adaptations. It would be great to see the Sonic writers reteam with Carrey. But as of writing, the actor has not officially signed on.

Morgan Creek and the Ace Ventura franchise

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective released in 1994 and made Jim Carrey an instant star. Although, other releases that year like The Mask and Dumb and Dumber certainly didn’t hurt. Morgan Creek greenlit a sequel, When Nature Calls, which released in 1995. It was also adapted into an animated series, which ran for three seasons. Additionally, a third movie (of sorts) released in 2009: a heavily criticized TV movie following Ace’s son.

James Robinson and Joe Roth founded Morgan Creek in 1988. The independent film studio has put out many classics over the years including Young Guns, The Last of The Mohicans, and The Good Shepherd. A new Ace Ventura movie is part of a larger plan to reboot several Morgan Creek-owned properties. The studio announced these plans in 2017 and is planning reboots of the aforementioned Young Guns and Major League.
