Aphasia is a medical condition that affects one cognitively by impacting their ability to communicate. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Aphasia is a condition that robs you of the ability to communicate. It can affect your ability to speak, write and understand language, both verbal and written.” Aphasia can occur immediately after having a stroke or head injury. Still, it can also come from a slow-growing brain tumor or a disease that causes gradual and progressive degenerative damage that’s permanent. The severity of one’s aphasia depends on several conditions, including the cause and the extent of the brain damage. Actor Bruce Willis’ aphasia diagnosis comes a little over a week after his 67th birthday.
