Warner Bros. will not be replacing Ezra Miller as the DCEU’s The Flash. Actor Ezra Miller(they/them) has been credited as the first out LGBT person as nonbinary and queer to play a lead role in a major superhero film, an incredible feat for the LGBTQ+ community. However, Ezra Miller has made many headlines this year for getting in trouble with police this year in Hawaii, causing speculation as to whether Warner Bros. will replace the star of their upcoming $200 million budget tentpole The Flash movie next year.

The Flash is one of the following year’s big summer blockbusters for the DCEU. The solo film, set to come out June 23rd, 2023, focuses on the titular comic book superhero character, the “Flash,” with actor Ezra Miller front and center. According to previous announcements about the film, The Flash movie will follow the events of the Flashpoint comic, which sees the creation of an alternate timeline due to the Flash attempting to travel back in time to save his mother.

Ezra Miller’s Hawaii Arrests

The problem is that Ezra Miller isn’t speedy enough in real life to stay out of trouble. A little over a month ago, on April 20th, Ezra Miller was arrested by Hawaii police for the second time this year. According to the police, he was taken in and charged early in the morning with second-degree assault after he got upset when asked to leave a private residence in the district of Puna. He reportedly threw a chair and “striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead, resulting in an approximate half-inch cut.”

According to the Associated Press, the first time Miller got in trouble with Hawaii police, Miller was arrested at a karaoke bar in Hawaii at the end of March 2022 for disorderly conduct and harassment. Police say Miller yelled obscenities, grabbed a mic from a singing woman, and lunged at a man playing darts after. Hawaii Police Assistant Chief Kenneth Quiocho told the AP that “Miller took issue with patrons singing “Shallow,” the iconic Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper duet from A Star Is Born.

After these two incidents and many more minor occurrences, all eyes have been on Warner Bros to see what decision they will make about the “Flash” actor going forward. This is probably not the type of negative attention a major studio corporation wants for one of their biggest stars in the DCEU franchise. Many fans of The Flash CW series were hoping if anyone replaces Ezra Miller as the Flash, it would be Grant Gustin, who’s been starring as the Scarlett Speedster on television for eight seasons since 2014.

Warner Bros. Keeps Miller for The Flash Movie

Warner Bros. has decisions to make about the future of the DCEU, but for now, it’s pretty solid that recasting Ezra Miller’s lead role in The Flash is not one of them. Although the blockbuster is set to hit theaters next year, production wrapped on the movie in 2021. It is fairly certain we will see The Flash still head to theaters next year, just as West Side Story was still released after allegations about Ansel Elgort got out. What matters now is if actor Ezra Miller will try their best to stay out of trouble and hopefully not do something that causes the movie and all the people who worked so hard on it to be scrapped forever.
