According to The Hollywood Reporter, French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who was recently cast in Disney’s Moon Knight, passed away today after being hospitalized on January 18th after being involved in a skiing accident in the Savoie region of France. They were able to get him to a hospital in Grenobl via helicopter. Unfortunately, his head injury was so severe that he passed away at the age of 37.
The Life & Career of French Actor Gaspard Ulliel
Gaspard Ulliel was born on November 24th, 1984, in Boulogne-Billancourt, a Paris suburb, to Christine, a show producer, and Serge Ulliel, a stylist. When Gaspard was a child, he attempted to ride a Doberman dog like a horse; the dog promptly gave the six-year-old Ulliel a scar that he would attribute to boosting his acting prowess due to his scar looking like a dimple.
Eventually, he studied cinema at the University of Saint-Denis and managed to get an acting gig while attending school. His first gig was for a made-for-TV French film named Une Femme En Blanc. Ulliel would appear in numerous TV French movies from the late 1990s through the early 2000s until he made his American debut in Hannibal Rising (2007).
In 2004 he won a César Award for Most Promising Actor for his performance in A Very Long Engagement.
From there, his star rose as he was featured on the cover of French Vogue in 2007, portrayed French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biopic film Saint Laurent, and was in Xavier Dolan‘s It’s Only the End of the World in 2017.
Most recently, along with Kate Moss, were the faces of Longchamp, a French leather company.
And in 2021, Ulliel was cast as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man in Disney’s Moon Knight this past July, alongside Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke.
