Oscar-nominated actress Sally Kellerman has died at the age of 84. Variety reports that Kellerman’s publicist Alan Eichler confirmed her death. Sally Kellerman’s daughter Claire revealed that she had suffered from dementia for the past five years, which was a result of her death. However, ABC News reports that Kellerman’s cause of death was heart failure. Whether the two conditions were related has not been confirmed. Kellerman is best known for her Oscar-nominated role as Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in Robert Altman’s 1970 film MAS*H, the film that inspired the acclaimed comedy-drama series of the same name that aired on Netflix for many years. She also worked with Altman in Brewster McCloud (1970), The Player (1992), and Ready to Wear (1994).
Some of Kellerman’s other big roles included the 1986 comedy Back to School, in which she plays a college professor and love interest to a returning student played by Rodney Dangerfield. Some of her other film credits include Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1972), Slither (1973), Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins (1975), A Little Romance (1979), and Foxes (1980). She also portrayed a live-action Natasha Fatale in Boris and Natasha: The Movie.
Kellerman also had several television credits to her name. She had a role as a Starfleet officer in the second Star Trek pilot, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” which garnered her a cult following. She had a lead role on Cheyenne in 1962, and she made guest appearances on The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and Bonanza. In her later years, she acted in several television roles, including an Emmy-nominated role in The Young and the Restless. She even appeared in an episode of Workaholics.
