Popular sitcom Workaholics was being worked as a movie, but star Adam Devine confirmed on Instagram that Paramount+ canceled the film. To make the news worst for fans of the series wanting a feature-length edition, production was set to begin in five weeks before getting killed off.
According to Adam Devine, the Workaholics movie was canned because of the streamer’s “new ‘global’ strategy.” So, the move now will be to talk to other “streamers” for a possible home for the film. He also said he would give fans more in-depth insight on his podcast, This Is Important Podcast, which he does with Anders Holm, Kyle Newacheck, and Blake Anderson.

The single-camera comedy ran from 2011 to 2017. It followed three friends who lived and worked together as telemarketers. Anderson, Devine, Newacheck, and Holm created the series. They served as co-writers and executive producers. Anderson, Devine, and Holm starred as the leads, with Newacheck starring in over 35 of the 86 episodes. Newacheck was one of the main directors throughout the series, with some episodes directed by Holm, Devine, and more beyond the co-creators. The main cast was joined by Maribeth Monroe, Jillian Bell, Erik Griffin, Waymond Lee, and a slew of celebrity guests, like Jack Black and Stephen Root.

Coming off last year’s Pitch Perfect series, Bumper in Berlin, Adam Devine has more room in his schedule in 2023 since things are not looking bright for Workaholics. Later this year, the actor will star in The Out-Laws, an action-comedy with Pierce Brosnan, Michael Rooker, and Nina Dobrev (The Final Girls).
The Workaholics movie might be dead for now, but Adam Devine and his co-stars can be watched by newcomers or fans wanting a rewatch of the series on streaming services.
