Addams Family 2, which is slated for release next Halloween, has dropped a teaser which promises lots of family-friendly frights.
The computer-generated Addams Family, from filmmaker Greg Tiernan, which dropped less than a year ago, was a surprise hit. The upcoming sequel sees Tiernan returning to direct alongside co-directors Laura Brousseau and Kevin Pavlovic.
Addams Family 2 will be produced by Gail Berman, Conrad Vernon, Danielle Sterling and Alison O’Brien, with Jonathan Glickman, Cassidy Lange and Andrew Mittman as executive producers.
The star-studded cast of the first film including Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler and Snoop Dogg will be reuniting as the titular family.
In addition, Saturday Night Live alum and three-time Emmy winner Bill Hader will play new character Cyrus, and Samaritan actor Javon “Wanna” Walton is set to take over for Finn Wolfhardin as Pugsley.
With its storyline adapted from the cartoons by American humorist Charles Addams, the beloved spooky family, who first appeared in 1938, have had a run of several popular television series’ including the famous live-action series that ran from 1964 to 1966, two incredible live-action features from Barry Sonnenfeld, and Addams Family Values, which is considered one of the best films of the 90’s and, of course, last year’s hit film. Safe to say, the sequel has a well-established legacy to live up to.
Speaking of the sequel, Tiernan said, “ The success of last year’s animated film was proof of the enduring legacy of The Addams Family and its ability to transcend popular culture. This second film will be every bit as fun as the original.”
Even more exciting, the production is also offering the opportunity for global fans to voice a yet-to-be-named character in The Addams Family Voice Challenge – a contest running from Oct. 8-Nov. 4 in select markets. Applicants can see more details here.
