Over the years, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” has had many hosts since its debut on November 26th, 1989. But the person who got ‘AFV’ off its feet was the late comedian Bob Saget. Many of us know Saget for being dad Danny Tanner on Full House, but he also was a big part of ‘AFV’ and getting it off the ground. Bob Saget sadly passed away last week on January 9th at the age of 65. Since then, many former costars and friends have been paying tribute to him. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” wants to honor him in a big way.
‘AFV’ is now in its 32nd season since airing in 1989. So far, there have been 5 hosts in ‘AFV’ history, with the first being comedian Bob Saget from 1989 to 1998. After Saget came John Fugelsang & Daisy Fuentes from 1998-2001, then Tom Bergeron from 2001-2015, and now Alfonso Ribeiro from 2015-present day. ‘AFV’ wants to make sure they pay tribute to Bob Saget since he was the original frontman.
The executive producer of ‘AFV’ Vin Di Bona, spoke to Variety about how he wants the show to pay tribute to Bob Saget. He decided even though ‘AFV’ honored former host Bob Saget in an episode a week after his death on January 16th, it was just not enough. Di Bona decided earlier this week that there’s too much prime PG-rated Saget material in the vault from his eight-year run not to share more on the air.
“America’s Funniest Home Videos” has been an American household Sunday evening staple for about 4 decades now on ABC. If you want to catch the weekly tribute segment for Bob Saget, ‘AFV’ has spread them out at different times in the 11 hourlong episodes that remain for Season 32.
