Despite the dramatic effect the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the worldwide movie industry, not every theater chain is ready to call it quits. One chain — perhaps the best chain — is expanding in the wake of the pandemic. According to a report on Deadline, Alamo Drafthouse is set to open 7 new theaters across the United States, including in three new regions. The Alamo Drafthouse expansion includes new theaters opening in Chicago, Birmingham, St. Louis, Washington D.C., Colorado, Texas, and a kung-fu themed theater in the Staten Island borough in New York City.

Alamo Drafthouse’s new theaters will join the chain’s 40 existing locations, which all offer a much-needed mix of blockbusters, indies, foreign films, documentaries, and more. However, Alamo Drafthouse’s expansion is primarily due to the explosion of box office money during 2021. In the announcement, the theater chain specifically stated that the expansion was due to the box office performance of movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Licorice Pizza, The French Dispatch, and The Green Knight.

The CEO of Alamo Drafthouse, Shelli Taylor, shared her delight with the expansion, stating:

Tim League, the founder and executive chairmen of Alamo Drafthouse, also shared his thoughts on the new theaters, stating:
