Finally after many years of waiting, Sam Lake, Creative Director of Remedy, officially announced the Alan Wake 2 at The Game Awards. The game will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2023.
When Remedy released the Alan Wake Remastered this year, the eventuality of the sequel announcement was inevitable. Sam Lake joined Geoff Keighley in The Game Awards this year to personally announce Alan Wake 2.
As Sam Lake said in a blog post, Remedy was thinking of a sequel for Alan Wake before the first game was even released. “With Max Payne, it all worked out great in the end, even if the first story wasn’t planned with a follow-up in mind. But so, with Alan Wake, we were thinking about a sequel early on,” said Lake.
Sam Lake made some interesting videos on TikTok, which he also posted on his Instagram page, about him walking around the forest with a flashlight and coffee thermoses. It was one of many hints about Alan Wake 2.
Alan Wake 2 will be Remedy Entertainment’s first survival horror game. With consideration of how the first game ended it makes perfect sense why Remedy choose this genre. Even that Remedy released the remastered version of Alan Wake in October, Lake said it is not necessary to play the previous game.
“I also want to make it clear that playing our previous games is not required in any way to fully enjoy Alan Wake 2, but to those interested, it will add to the backstory of it.”
By “previous games”, Lake means Alan Wake, American Nightmare DLC, and the Control AWE DLC which shows the connection between Alan Wake and Control universe.
Alan Wake 2 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC via Epic Games Store in 2023 and will be published by Epic Games as well.
