Almost two years after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza, Alec Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are to be charged with involuntary manslaughter for the Rust shooting. This announcement came today from the Santa Fe District Attorney as First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies decided on who will be facing charges and who will not.

Upon being charged, it will all be filed by the end of the month for Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. The charges will consist of two counts of involuntary manslaughter. The first charge is a fourth-degree felony, which holds a sentencing of up to 18 months with a $5,000 fine. The second charge is almost the same, but it adds a firearm enhancement, meaning the person sentenced must serve five years.

Alec Baldwin and armorer to be charged with manslaughter for Rust shooting

Among the people who face consequences for the incident is the film’s assistant director, David Halls. He and the prosecutors reached a plea agreement over his charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon. He is against a suspended sentence and six months of probation. Alec Baldwin has stood in defense against being charged with manslaughter or anything else that would come out. Last year, he filed a lawsuit against the crew for negligence. This plea agreement is uncertain as to how it will affect his case.

In the aftermath of the Rust shooting and Alec Baldwin possibly being charged with manslaughter, details had come out about the set. Reports about misfires before the death of the cinematographer and crew walking off due to poor gun safety. The actor and producers also settled a suit from the Hutchins Estate.

The film was set to start filming again this month with the original cast. No update has been given about the film’s status upon the development of the star’s case.
