Alex Kidd In Miracle World is getting the remake treatment. Sega teamed up with IGN for the Summer of Gaming event and revealed the trailer yesterday. The original game released for the Sega Master System in 1986 and received several sequels. Check out the trailer below:

Who is Alex Kidd?

Alex Kidd In Miracle World is a platformer that follows a young martial artist who sets out to rescue his kingdom from the villainous Janken the Great. It received critical acclaim upon release and became one of Sega’s earliest flagship franchises. Sega released several sequels across the Master System and one on its follow-up console, the Genesis (or Mega Drive outside the US). However, the franchise’s last entry released way back in 1990.

Merge Games (Spirit of the North) is publishing the Alex Kidd remake and developing alongside Jankenteam. In addition to an updated art style, the remake will add new levels, story elements, a Boss Rush mode, and tweaks to combat, movement, and menus. Players can also choose to play the original game through Classic Mode. But Switch owners can already play the original as it launched on the console last year.

Alex Kidd In Miracle World DX will release in 2021 on consoles and PC but has no definitive release date yet. However, eager players can already add it to their wishlist on Steam. The launch price is also unknown.

IGN’s Summer of Gaming serves as the website’s replacement for E3. The event began yesterday and will continue releasing exclusive trailers, reveals, and interviews throughout the month of June. IGN will also host charity streams with speedrunners for different games. Various publisher showcases, like Sony’s, are also part of the Summer of Gaming calendar with pre and post-show content by IGN.
