Alita: Battle Angel is one of the best anime adaptations there is and a sequel has been something fans have been waiting for.
A new post from producer Jon Landau has netizens wondering if a sequel might be in the works.
Based on a Japanese manga of the same name, Alita: Battle Angel is the story of a deadly warrior machine that doubles as a sentient teenage girl. When her broken remains are discarded from a floating metropolis in the sky, a surface-dwelling inventor (Cristoph Waltz) brings her back to life. He’s determined to raise her as his own daughter, but find himself unable to neither disconnect her from her own violent past, nor hide her from his own.
Originally meant to be headed by Avatar creator James Cameron, the sci-fi film by Landau was hugely successful, managing to double its original $170 million investment.
Alita is still a pretty decent high-concept action-adventure movie. The story rarely lags, and when it does, the stellar CGI and world design never fail to bring it back on track. The open-ended film with its huge fanbase is the perfect gateway to a sequel.
In an Instagram post, Jon Landau, the blockbuster-maker wore a special T-shirt with a design that implied if his followers helped check the spread of the coronavirus by washing their hands, he would reward them with the sequel they’ve begged for all this time; this might be a joke or it might a fanbase’s dream come true.
Either way, the film remains one of the best original animated films to have come out in recent years, easily winning out over films like Mortal Engines and even Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and a part two is something everyone can get behind!
