Universal has released the first trailer for Michael Bay’s next film, Ambulance. Based on a 2005 Danish film of the same name, this movie stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Will Sharp, an Afghanistan War veteran who is struggling to pay for his wife’s medical bills. He reaches out to Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal), his foster brother with a criminal past, who talks Will into robbing a bank to earn millions of dollars quickly. However, when the job goes awry, Danny and Will find themselves on the run from law enforcement in an ambulance with an EMT (Eiza Gonzalez) and a dying cop.

Ambulance takes place during a single day in Los Angeles and the trailer makes sure to highlight that it’s in LA. The trailer also features plenty of Michael Bay’s distinct action shots and firework explosions. There are shots of Gyllenhaal shooting at helicopters while hanging out of the back of the ambulance. This looks like a crazy adrenaline rush and should be perfect for fans of Bay’s work.

Jake Gyllenhaal, who recently starred in Netflix’s The Guilty, spoke to USA Today and talked about filming an action film like Ambulance in such a confined space with a director like Bay.

“A lot of the movie I’m in an ambulance, so there’s not a lot of space,” Jake Gyllenhaal said. “There are a lot of scenes where I’m just being thrown around an ambulance and I’ve got to say, that gave me even more respect for first responders because there are so many sharp edges in an ambulance nobody thinks about when it’s driving as fast it is.”

“I’d heard all these amazing stories about Michael Bay and what it’s like working with him,” he continues. “He’s wild, man, but I adore him. Driving around the streets of LA at like 100 mph, shooting guns at helicopters. There are many stories out of that movie that are really fun and crazy.”

Additional cast for Ambulance includes Garret Dillahunt, A Martinez, and Keir O’Donnell. The film is set to be released on February 18, 2022.
