Actress Rebecca Lim has officially been chosen to lead Confinement, a chilling new thriller that hails from Clover Films and iQiyi. Directed by Kelvin Tong, who’s known for his work on The Maid (2005) and Rule Number One (2008), the production of Confinement will be based in Singapore, likely starring additional Singaporean actors aside from Lim herself.
Due to start production early next year, Confinement will star Rebecca Lim as a pregnant painter who’s just moved into her dream home and is eager to start a new family and a new life. However, after hiring a confinement nanny to make sure she and her unborn baby are cared for during the early days of motherhood, “inexplicable incidents” start occurring in her house, threatening both her and the baby, according to Variety.
Confinement will be directed by Kelvin Tong, whose past projects include Republic of Food (2018) and It’s a Great, Great World (2011), among others. Regarding Lim’s casting in the lead role for Confinement, Tong told Variety the following:

Aside from her upcoming role in Confinement, Rebecca Lim boasts a long and impressive career in film and television, with many of her credits belonging to foreign films like Yes We Can! (2014), where she played Zhang Xue Quin, Doppelganger – The Prequel and Doppelganger (2018), where she played Zhang Ai Ling, and one of her most recent roles in Third Rail (2022), where she appears as Geraldine “Geri” Hyak.
With Rebecca Lim in the lead role and Kelvin Tong at the helm, Confinement will be the latest addition to a collaboration between Singapore-based distributor Clover Films and Chinese streamer iQiyi, with the support of the Singapore Film Commission, or SFC, in an effort to help expand iQiyi beyond mainstream China.
Lim Teck, Media Director for Clover Films, called Rebecca Lim an “artiste” that Tong and Clover Films “have always hoped to work with,” according to Variety.
Confinement, starring Rebecca Lim for Clover Films and iQiyi, is currently slated for release in late 2023, but an official release date isn’t available at this time. Further details on the plot and cast of the movie will likely become available as the film continues production.
