Kojima Productions is going to another level after announcing Death Stranding 2; the hit video game will hit the big screen with a movie adaption, Deadline reported. Alex Lebovici, the executive producer of this year’s smash hit bonkers horror film, Barbarian, will develop and produce the big screen take on the sci-fi AAA game. Hideo Kojima will also produce, and Allan Ungar will executive produce.

The game follows Sam Bridges (Norman Reedus), who goes through a post-apocalyptic America by connecting survivors in this hostile world. The world was ravaged by a mysterious event, creating a bridge between life and death, with creatures from the afterlife being a threat. It has all the weirdness the developer Kojima is known for, along with a blockbuster cast with Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, Léa Seydoux, and Margaret Qualley.

Development is being fast-tracked for the Death Stranding movie. It has no writer or director attached but will tell a story that will expand the universe of the games by introducing new pieces of the puzzle and new characters.

Death Stranding movie adaption follows news of the sequel of the hit video game

Kojima is one of the biggest icons in the gaming industry. He had a long run at Konami, in which he gained fame for the Metal Gear Solid series, which is in the works to be adapted with Oscar Isaac attached. After a falling out with Konami, he went off to start up his new studio. Death Stranding is the studio’s only game. At this year’s The Game Awards, a sequel was announced, and the studio has another game in the works.
