Dune: Part Two production kicks off today, as reported by Deadline. The film will begin in Altivole, Italy, in the Veneto region for two days. After that, on July 21st, the cast and crew will reunite to work on the rest of the film in Budapest, Hungary, where the first part was mostly filmed.

The Italy shoot for the production of Dune: Part Two is taking place at the Brion Tomb, the burial of the Brion family. Carlo Scarpa designed it between 1968-78. The concrete sanctuary and tomb hold Byzantine and Japanese influences, gardens, a pool, and a small chapel. You take a quick look at it, and it looks like it came from the universe that author Frank Herbert created.

While Dune: Part Two production starts, it has plenty of time to finish up. The film was set to release in theaters on October 20th, 2023, but then it got delayed to November 17th, 2023. The new date makes the sci-fi epic compete with The Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Returning and New Stars for ‘Dune: Part Two’ Production

The sequel will cover the second half of Herbert’s novel. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), flee with the Fremen to figure out their plans to fight back against the Harkonnen. They will be joined by returning stars Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgaard, and Josh Brolin. In addition, Denis Villeneuve will return to direct and co-write with writing partner Jon Spaiths (Prometheus).

The returning cast will get to meet new castmates for the production of Dune: Part Two. They will be joined by Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die), and Austin Butler (Elvis).

Warner Bros. seems all set on a Dune franchise. It is developing a prequel series for HBO Max, Sisterhood. Set 10,000 years before the events of the films, it will follow the Bene Gesserit, the group of women with special powers. This is on top of greenlighting the second film right away.
