Amy Adams fans rejoice as Enchanted (2007) will be making its debut on Disney+ as a part of Disney+ Day, the two-year anniversary of Disney+. Disney is celebrating in a big way as Enchanted will be joining a large roster of new content that will be debuting on the service the same day. This also includes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Jungle Cruise, Home Sweet Home Alone, and Season 2 of The World According to Jeff Goldblum.
For those who haven’t checked out Enchanted, it’s a clever spin on the classic Disney formula. Adams stars as Giselle, a princess from an animated fantasy realm who is set to marry a handsome prince (James Marsden). However, when the prince’s stepmother (Susan Sarandon) becomes threatened by Giselle, she sends Giselle through a portal that sends her to our world. More specifically, New York City. When she is helped by a friendly stranger (Patrick Dempsey), the two end up forming an unlikely bond that tests what true love really means.
Enchanted includes many parodies of Disney animated films, including Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Sleeping Beauty. It also includes a great musical soundtrack where three of the songs were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Enchanted was a big hit with both critics and audiences as it holds a 93% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned more than $340 million at the worldwide box office.
A sequel to Enchanted, titled Disenchanted, is expected to land on Disney+ in 2022. The sequel is directed by Adam Shankman and will see most of the cast from the first return with some new cast members, including Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Oscar Nunez. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz are also returning to write original music for the sequel.
Enchanted will begin streaming on Disney+ on Nov. 12.
