After a teaser from Bruce Campbell yesterday, Warner Bros. has released the official red band trailer for Evil Dead Rise (seen below). In the official look at the upcoming horror film, we get loads of gory violence and a sense of the story with this new cast.

The Evil Dead Rise trailer introduces us to a family as two sisters reunite. Things take a dark turn as a mysterious book is discovered, which summons an evil that takes over their lives. Rather than previous films in which the cast must try to survive in a cabin, this will take place in an apartment building in L.A., so at least there is still that sense of claustrophobia.

The latest footage of the film gives a grander scale than previous films while keeping it intimate, like the originals and the 2013 remake. With flashbacks, it looks like we will be getting some additional lore behind the Necronomicon.

The film will star Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings), Lilly Sullivan (I Met a Girl), and Nell Fisher (My Life Is Murder). Bruce Campbell will not be starring in this edition of the franchise, but he executive produces with the director of the original films, Sam Raimi. Lee Cronin (50 States of Fright) directed and wrote the film. Romel Adam, Macdara Kelleher, and John Keville also executive produce, with Moira Grant and Rob Tapert producing.

Besides the Necronomicon, the Evil Dead Rise trailer does not show too many nods to the original films. What we do see is Sullivan wielding a chainsaw Ash style while covered in blood, so at least we are guaranteed a protagonist to dismember the Deadites that threaten her.

Let the Evil Dead Rise trailer hold you over as the wait for the film is not long. It will rip into theaters on April 21.
