Fast and Furious 10 is running into a problem that is not often heard in the film industry. Plenty of movies use real locations to film, and the Los Angeles neighborhood Angelino Heights has put its foot down about the franchise using its location (via Variety).

Since 2001, the neighborhood has been a staple for the Fast and Furious series. It is home to Bob’s Market, the store owned by Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) family, and the character’s home. It has become a landmark both in the films and the real world as fans go to see the location. Fans have also taken it as a place to race. Residents are done with the conditions of their neighborhood as they plan to protest the production of Fast 10 on Friday.

A production notice by FilmLA that residents received shows that Fast and Furious 10 will shoot on Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Kensington Road, where the Toretto house resides. It will consist of “simulated emergency services activity, aerial photography, wetting down the street, and atmospheric smoke.” The permit has not been finalized, but the community still received the bulletins.

Fast and Furious 10 leaves neighborhood furious about production

Since 2020, the city and county have seen an increase in fatal car accidents. The first three months of this year increased by 21% compared to 2020. That is one of the biggest factors for the community that has motivated the upcoming protest. For the protest against the production of Fast and Furious, they have partnered with two organizations about safe driving that are against street racing: Street Racing Kills and Streets Are For Everyone. The founders, Lili Trujillo Puckett and Damian Kevitt have been affected by street racing, with Puckett losing her 16-year-old daughter in a street race and Kevitt losing his leg.

“I feel like they should have waited maybe another year, especially with the problem being as big as it is right now,” Puckett said.

For Kevitt, Universal needs to “take responsibility” for safer conditions and address these issues surrounding production of Fast and Furious movies.

Fast and Furious 10 started filming in April. The film has set its parking spot at the theater for May 19, 2023.
