The games by Sony Santa Monica have been largely based in Greece, following the adventures with Kratos. The 2018 sequel/soft reboot and its 2022 sequel, Ragnarok, found him settled in the world of Norse mythology. The God of War TV series will be based on the later Norse games. After so much death and wrongdoing, Kratos settles in Midgard to start a family and find peace, although he does not find much as he and his son, Atreus, spread his wife’s ashes at the highest peak in all the realms. This is the plot of the 2018 game, which the series will adapt from.

The last two games have made crushing wins at The Game Awards, on top of selling like hotcakes. The 2018 entry won Game of the Year, among other awards. Ragnarok recently won Best Narrative, Best Performance with Christopher Judge, Best Audio Design, and Innovation in Accessibility.
