Horror remakes have found great success over the years, and that is continuing. Jamie Clayton is the first woman Pinhead in the Hellraiser reimagining for Hulu. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she talked about the process of becoming the character.

While Jamie Clayton did not go “method per se” for Pinhead in Hellraiser, she did dedicate herself to the role. Once she got her makeup done, she was all in. It put her in a reclusive state, and rather than chatting with the crew or cast members on set before shooting; she would try to be alone and quiet before director David Bruckner called action.

Jamie Clayton went all in on playing Pinhead in Hellraiser

While many of the Hellraiser films have not been well received, it has become a cult classic and an iconic part of horror history, specifically with its hellish group of antagonists. Despite starring in the latest Hellraiser, Jamie Clayton grew up as not a horror fan. It was not until her 20s, when she got into it when she wanted to get into effects, that she would watch films in the genre.

Preparing to get the role was another story. Jamie Clayton did not think she would land the role in Hellraiser. When she read the script and watched the “sexy” original, then she dedicated herself to auditioning by hiring a friend to coach her. Between the callback and meeting Bruckner, it all worked out.

Bruckner has slowly received recognition in horror over the years. He found underground success with The Ritual and a segment in V/H/S but struck gold with Rebecca Hall leading The Night House in 2020. He partnered with The Night House writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski for their modern take on the Clive Barker horror classic.

Before signing up to become Pinhead in Hellraiser, Jamie Clayton is known for Sense8, Designated Survivor, and The L Word: Generation Q. She will star in the animated series Twilight of the Gods with Sylvia Hoeks (See), Jessica Henwick, and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones).

Hellraiser hit Hulu on October 7.
