Fans of House of the Dragon may have questions about a foot fetish scene, which, thankfully, director Clare Kilner addresses. In Entertainment Weekly’s West of Westeros podcast, we learned that it all came down to executive producer Sarah Hess having the idea, although it certainly gave some Quentin Tarantino energy.

In the last few episodes, we have seen Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) and Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) develop their relationship. He has supported her by doing some murderous things and playing as a deadlier version of Little Finger from the original series. In the foot scene in question from last night’s episode of House of the Dragon, titled The Green Council, he masturbates while looking at his queen’s feet.

“It’s so invasive what he does. Looking at her feet and then having a wank. It’s so intrusive and invasive. It’s a really dirty scene.”

House of the Dragon director talks about EP, who came up with foot fetish scene

Coming up with this foot scene for House of the Dragon could get all sorts of reactions from other writers, directors, and producers. While thinking about Hess originating this scene, Kilner said how the producer’s “mind is incredible.”

While a foot fetish scene would raise questions for most shows, House of the Dragon and its predecessor, Game of Thrones, have been known for getting into uncomfortable territory. Across both shows, we have seen sexual violence, incest, and so much more that could make audiences squirm. Even the actors may feel that way as Emily Carey, who played young Alicent, was worried about it until she met Paddy Considine, who eased her nervousness.

House of the Dragon will end its first season this Sunday (October 23) at 9 p.m. ET. It will air on HBO and be available on HBO Max.
