Veteran Hollywood actor Mitchell Ryan has died at the age of 88. According to sources, the Lethal Weapon actor died in his Los Angeles home. He made his name on many film and television roles such as Dark Shadows, Magnum Force, Judge Dredd, and Halloween. His former costar and friend Kathryn Leigh Scott shared his passing on her Facebook, saying, “My sweet, beloved friend Mitch died early this morning. He was a great gift in my life. I cherish my warm memories of his beautiful soul. I’m heartbroken.” Ryan and Scott played love interests Burke Devlin and Maggie Evans on the series Dark Shadows. Ryan eventually parted ways with the series in 1967, Anthony George replaced his character. The actor may have died at 88, but Mitchell Ryan had over 135 acting credits, including Dark Shadows, Lethal Weapon, and Dharma & Greg.

The actor was in the Navy before turning his attention to the stage. Before Mitchell Ryan died at 88, he had many credits long before Lethal Weapon. Ryan made his acting debut in the crime drama Thunder Road at Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. He moved his career to Broadway and starred in Wait Until Dark, Medea, and The Price. He appeared in 1970s cult classics Electra Glide in Blue, The Friends of Eddie Coyle. Ryan starred alongside Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry sequel Magnum Force, playing the friend to Eastwood’s character. He is most known for playing the retired-general-turned-heroin-smuggler Peter McAllister in the 1987 film Lethal Weapon. That film franchise has since turned into a series. He played the semi-alcoholic father of Greg in Dharma & Greg. Tim Burton made the 2012 film version of the series Dark Shadows that Ryan had starred in.
