Deadline reports that along with telling the story behind Helm’s Deep, it will delve into the blood-soaked life and reign of Helm Hammerhand, the king of Rohan. Kenji Kamiyama, the man behind Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Additionally, Philippa Boyens, who co-wrote the screenplays for The Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit series, will executive produce the film. Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou have written the screenplay, which is based on a story by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.
The Lord of the Rings franchise recently celebrated 20 years since its release, and we are seeing the beloved franchise receive new life in new mediums. This includes the new TV series (billed as the most expensive series ever created), an upcoming video game centered on the character Gollum, and now a Lord of the Rings anime movie. Clearly, even after nearly two decades since the trilogy ended, the series is still going.
