The Hulu original series Only Murders In the Building released its first season 2 trailer today, giving excited fans their first look at the deepening plotlines and oncoming drama that the second season holds. The mystery-comedy series, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and ex-Disney Channel star Selena Gomez premiered initially in August 2021 and was renewed for a second season in September of that year.
Only Murders In the Building follows a protagonist trio of former actor Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), struggling Broadway director Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and apartment renovator Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez). The three are residents of an apartment building called the Arconia and bond over their love of true crime podcasts. After fellow Arconia resident Tim Kono (Julian Chi) is found dead in the show’s first episode, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel decide to investigate Tim’s death and launch a podcast of their own, calling it Only Murders In the Building. The series’ first season spanned ten episodes, concluding with the season 1 finale in October 2021; the second season will reportedly have a similar runtime.
What’s Next in ‘Only Murders In the Building’ Season 2?
Only Murders In the Building season 2 will reportedly pick up with Charles, Oliver, and Mabel as the prime suspects in the death of Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) after Mabel was found crouched over her body and literally red-handed. The season 2 trailer shows the trio desperately trying to clear their names and find Bunny’s true killer. Still, according to Deadline, they run into two complications in the form of their neighbors, who all think they’ve committed murder, and a rival podcast run by business mogul Cinda Canning (Tina Fey).
Amy Ryan, who plays Charles’s love interest Jan, will be returning for the show’s second season, shown occupying a jail cell in the trailer. According to IndieWire, Amy Schumer and Cara Delevingne will be joining the cast as fictionalized Amy Schumer and Alice, Mabel’s love interest, respectively.
