Isabelle Fuhrman is back as Esther, or rather Leena, in the trailer for Orphan: First Kill. The first film was released in 2009 and starred Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard. It followed the couple Farmiga and Sarsgaard, who adopt the seemingly delightful Esther. It turns out that she was more of a devil than delightful. The trailer for the Paramount+ Orphan prequel trailer shows Leena up to her usual chaos with a side of homicide. She does everything from lying and throwing tantrums to drugging her mother (played by Julia Stiles). Isabelle Fuhrman reached out to Orphan writer the prequel story writer David Leslie Johnson after watching a 2019 episode of Dr. Phil about a Ukrainian orphan who lied about their age. Fuhrman played Leena/Esther when she was 12 and is now 25. William Brent Bell directed the Paramount+ Orphan prequel and did not de-age Fuhrman for the role.
Isabelle Fuhrman Captured the Unhinged Nature of Leena
Though Isabelle Fuhrman has had roles in films such as The Hunger Games and The Novice, she will always be known for Leena/Esther. The film had a surprising and refreshing twist that played out smoothly in the 2009 film. Since viewers of the first film already know Leena’s secret, it will take more from the writers and Fuhrman to differentiate itself. The Paramount+ prequel trailer of Orphan: First Kill displays the madness from the start when it comes to Leena. Certain questions will need to be answered from the trailer, like the fate of the real Esther. Orphan: First Kill could just be another disappointing prequel horror film, but it could have even more twists and turns. At least fans of the Leena/Esther character will get to see Isabelle Fuhrman transform into that horrifying psychopath once again.
The Paramount+ prequel film starring Isabelle Fuhrman as Leena/Esther once again is available to watch on the streaming service on August 19th.
