Netflix is gearing up for its star-studded Edgar Allan Poe movie, The Pale Blue Eye, with a new trailer (seen below) that gives a deeper look at the murder mystery with Christian Bale leading. The footage shows how evidence piles on to make for an intriguing mystery.

The film based its story on the novel of the same name by Louis Bayard follows Augustus Landor (Christian Bale) investigating a homicide of a cadet who was hung and had his heart removed. He gets help from one cadet, Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling). The stacked cast joining the two is mostly seen throughout The Pale Blue Eye trailer. The cast will include Gillian Anderson, Toby Jones, Robert Duvall, Fred Hechinger (Fear Street), Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Charlie Tahan (Ozark).

The Pale Blue Eye trailer shows Christian Bale in Netflix murder mystery movie

The Pale Blue Eye trailer gives insight into the adaption of the novel, which was directed and written by Scott Cooper (Antlers). He had previously worked with the Dark Knight actor on his 2017 western, Hostiles. The author executive produced with Tracey Landon, Buddy Patrick, Emily Hunter Salveson, Ryan Donnell Smith, and Dylan Weathered. Bale and Cooper produced with John Lesher and Tyler Thompson.

The murder mystery will have a limited theatrical release on December 23 and hit the streaming platform on January 6. It matches a similar plan that the company made for the Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion. It had released in theaters on November 23 and will be on the platform on December 23. It will make for a big day for the company, but it has made people scratch their heads to limit the money that could be made by limiting theatrical runs. To put it into perspective, Knives Out made $312 million, and Glass Onion grossed about $13 million during its one week in theaters. This new territory is currently getting figured out, so we will likely see more of this release model in the future.
