The creators of the upcoming Percy Jackson Disney Plus series have announced the addition of five new actors to the show’s cast, with familiar faces like Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, and Glynn Turman set to play familiar characters such as Sally Jackson, Mr. D, and Chiron. With the show having just entered production in Vancouver, this is only the latest in an expected series of casting decisions.

The news of the new casting additions follows the casting of the show’s main stars, which will include Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) as Percy Jackson, a sarcastic, misfit teenager who’s forced to come to terms with his half-godly heritage when he’s accused of stealing a deadly divine weapon; he’s joined by his best friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri), a nervous yet loyal satyr, and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) an intelligent, determined daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle.

Who’s New in ‘Percy Jackson’ on Disney Plus?

The recent newcomers to the Percy Jackson series on Disney Plus include some of Percy’s greatest allies and supporters, along with a few of his most dangerous foes. Virginia Kull (Law & Order: SVU) will appear as Sally Jackson, Percy’s incredibly supportive and patient mother who tries her hardest to protect him from the dangerous world of Greek mythology, but knows she can’t protect him forever. Glynn Turman (The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder) will appear as Chiron, aka Mr. Brunner, Percy’s sixth-grade Latin teacher and trainer of ancient heroes, a centaur who serves as one of Percy’s greatest sources of wisdom and guidance.

On the most antagonistic side of things, we have Megan Mullally (Will & Grace) as Mrs. Dodds, aka Alecto, Percy’s algebra teacher who doubles as one of the three Furies, servants of Hades, the god of the underworld, who will go to great lengths to see Percy fail on his quest. There’s also Timm Sharp (Friends with Money) as Gabe Ugliano, Percy’s combative, abrasive, and selfish stepfather. Jason Mantzoukas (The Dictator) will appear as Mr. D, aka. Dionysus, the Greek god of wine who runs Camp Half-Blood, a safe haven for demigods like Percy Jackson.

According to Variety, Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson novels, and Jon Steinberg are writing the pilot while James Bobin directs. No release date for the series has been announced yet, though it has been confirmed that production on the pilot has begun.
