HBO Max executives have officially announced Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin has been renewed for a season 2. A spinoff of the Pretty Little Liars novels by Sara Shepard and the resulting 2010 TV show, the renewal of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin officially makes it the first spinoff series in the franchise to air for more than a season.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, which first premiered on HBO Max in July 2022, follows a group of teenagers who become tormented by an unknown assailant simply known as “A,” who holds the girls responsible for events that nearly ripped the town of Millwood, Pennsylvania apart 20 years ago. Season 1 of Original Sin features Imogen Adams (Bailee Madison), Tabby Hawthorne (Chandler Kinney), Farian Bryant (Zaria), Minnie “Mouse” Honrada (Malia Pyles), and Noa Olivar (Maia Reficco) as a new generation of “Little Liars” who find themselves tormented by “A” who, per the series description, wants to “make them pay for their parents’ secret sin… as well as their own.”

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin first aired five years after the conclusion of Pretty Little Liars in 2017 and is a functionally separate show. Variety describes the ten-episode first season as a “‘ coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama’ that is set miles away from the original I. Marlene King-created Freeform series’ hometown of Rosewood, but within the existing ‘Pretty Little Liars’ universe.”

What We Know About ‘Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin’ Season 2

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is created and executive produced by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is no stranger to this particular brand of horror, and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, who has previously worked with Aguirre-Sacasa on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Regarding Original Sin’s season 2 renewal, the pair told Deadline, “We are beyond excited to continue telling stories with our amazing group of little liars—exploring their friendships, their romances, their secrets, and their status as scream queens supreme…Eternal thanks to the fans who have embraced this new, horror-version of Pretty Little Liars —which we’ll be continuing, of course—as well as our partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, and Alloy Entertainment. As Tabby would say, ‘There’s a sequel in the offing!’”
