Roma director Alfonso Cuarón has signed a TV deal with Apple. The Oscar-winning director has finalized a pact with the company that will span five years, according to Deadline. This deal is concentrated on productions for the company’s upcoming streaming service Apple TV+, which launches November 1.
So, what caliber surrounds Alfonso Cuarón to make this deal so interesting? Well, he’s behind the best director and cinematography winning Roma. It also won the award for Best Foreign Film at the 2019 Oscars. He is also the director behind the Oscar-winning Gravity. Other credits include Children of Men, Y Tu Mamá También, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Quite the resume if I say so myself.
Alfonso Cuarón and His Relationship with Apple
So, to what extent are they working together? Well, the relationship between Alfonso Cuarón and Apple seems to be solely focused on TV with Deadline saying:
Synergy is the key to this success. With many studios working together to create these projects, it should be a strong collaborative effort. For clarity, Esperanto Filmoj was created by Alfonso Cuarón and, therefore, his production company will do a lot of the leg work.
However, Alfonso Cuarón will also be joining a slate of other content creators for the service. This includes Kerry Ehrin, Jason Katims and Justin Lin.
Apple’s streaming service offers nine original shows on launch day. This includes The Morning Show (starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Anniston, and Steve Carell) and Ronald D. Moore’s For All Mankind. Many others are available and there are many more to come.
