Sex Education fans can rejoice because Ncuti Gatwa will return for Season 4. Gatwa plays Eric Effiong, best friend of Otis (Asa Butterfield) on the Netflix British comedy-drama series. Since Gatwa was cast as the new Doctor on Doctor Who, fans thought that was the end of Effiong. The newest season of Doctor Who is currently in production in Wales. Since the schedules of the two popular series don’t overlap, Ncuti Gatwa can return as Effiong for Season 4 of Sex Education. Eric Effiong has been one of the favored characters on the Netflix British comedy-drama series. The series revolves around teens working through their sexuality, sometimes with the help of Otis’ mother, Jean (Gillian Anderson). Many castmates of Gatwa have left the series, including Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds, Patricia Allison, and Rakhee Thakrar. This season will “see a mixture of old and new exciting faces” for the series.

Ncuti Gatwa is Gaining Recognition Outside of Sex Education

Not only is Ncuti Gatwa the new Doctor, but he will also be in the highly anticipated Barbie film. Barbie is directed by Greta Gerwig and will star Emma Mackey (Sex Education alum), Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, and more. Of course, Gatwa’s portrayal of Eric Effiong is compelling. Casting directors have taken notice of Gatwa’s talents. It’s also endearing that Ncuti Gatwa will continue to play Effiong in Season 4 of Sex Education. He has won a BAFTA Scotland Award for his role in the Netflix British comedy-drama series. The actor has also earned three BAFTA Television Award nominations. It will be interesting to see how Gatwa will play the new Doctor. It’s at least a relief to know that Ncuti Gatwa remains on the cast for Season 4 of Sex Education. Fans can continue to enjoy his character’s story.

There is no exact release date for the Netflix British comedy-drama series, but it will premiere sometime in 2023.
