Every production has its struggles, especially if that is special effects on a TV budget. Although Marvel delivers some of the highest budget TV around, She-Hulk creators discussed a CG lead character provides plenty of challenges. Head writer and executive producer Jessica Gao (Rick and Morty) spoke to IGN during SDCC about the upcoming Disney Plus series and how she and the crew handled making Tatiana Maslany’s (Perry Mason) protagonist from live-action to VFX.

One of the other She-Hulk creators was director Kat Coiro (The Mick). When it came to a CG She-Hulk, she was more optimistic due to the technology available to bring the character to life.

While Gao said it was a “trial and error” process, it ended up with results. The response between the trailers has been mostly negative to the special effects of the character. Compared to Mark Ruffalo, who returns as Hulk, he looks significantly better than his costar. Those assets might be the reason for the difference between the two green heroes.

While the She-Hulk creators struggled with a CG superhero, plenty of the show has more to offer. It will deliver a courtroom drama comedy, something we have not seen from the MCU yet, as it has experimented with its formula and genres in Phase 4 and will continue that moving forward. The series also has major established characters with Bruce Banner, Abomination (Tim Roth), Wong (Benedict Wong), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox).

For the greater MCU, She-Hulk is the penultimate project for Phase 4, as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the finale before next year’s beginning of Phase 5. The Multiverse Saga has been on a slow roll, which has gained some criticism over its lack of direction. Now, it seems by next year, we will see how Marvel will build its latest arc toward Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
