Aidy Bryant, known for starring in Saturday Night Live (SNL) and Hulu’s Shrill has just closed a deal with Univeral Television. Through this contract, she will be developing and producing projects for the studio. Her deal with Universal Television will not interfere with Bryant’s work starring in SNL. Lorne Michaels, creator of SNL, will give her leeway to create and star in her own projects outside the comedy variety show. Aidy Bryant’s deal with Universal Television will give her more creative control of her own projects as she had when starring Hulu’s Shrill.

Aidy Bryant has just returned to SNL for her 10th season, the show’s 47th season which premiered in October. She has played a range of characters from Ted Cruz to Carrie Crum, a 7th-grade travel expert. She started on SNL for its 38th season, back in 2012. Just recently she played in a skit with the most recent host, Kim Kardashian, where they switched places for the day. The skit has almost two million views on YouTube.

From SNL to Hulu’s Shrill

Aidy Bryant starred as the lead in Hulu’s Shrill, which premiered in 2019 and ran for two seasons. Bryant received rave reviews of her performance. She even was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Oustanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She not only starred in Hulu’s Shrill but was a writer and an executive producer of the series.

It followed Annie (played by Aidy Bryant), who is an ambitious journalist who wants to change her life, not her body while dealing with bad boyfriends, friend trouble, and a pedantic boss. The first season earned a 93% score and an 84% score for its second season on Rotten Tomatoes. Since Bryant has first-hand experience having creative rights, her upcoming projects will just be sharpening her already-earned skills.

Of course, Bryant is still a current cast member on SNL and can be seen playing her comical characters on the newest episode airing October 16, with host Rami Malek.
