During SDCC 2022, Marvel announced that Spider-Man: Freshman Year will release in 2024 and star Charlie Cox as he reprises his role as Daredevil in the Disney Plus series. Doctor Strange is also confirmed for the series. The prequel will see Peter Parker in his first year of high school.

The introduction of Spider-Man in the MCU subtracted the origin story that had been seen too many times in other iterations. Spider-Man: Freshman Year is not necessarily an origin story, but it will see Peter Parker entering the superhero realm before Tony Stark swept him off his feet to fight his fellow Avengers in Captain America: Civil War.

The panel only showed some images of the characters, but no footage was shown. While delivering the release window for Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Charlie Cox set to star, we did get a few extra details. While uncertain how the story will unfold or how it connects to his story moving forward in the MCU, villains Dr. Octavius, Chameleon, Speed Demon, Scorpion, and Butane the Pyromaniac are set to make an appearance. Harry Osborn and Amadeus Cho will be featured too. It can set up a lot for Tom Holland’s Spidey with this mix of obscure and major characters being introduced.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year swings to 2024 release with Charlie Cox

How Daredevil ties to the series is uncertain. Matt Murdock returned to the screen with No Way Home for a quick scene that swept the legal repercussions of Far From Home under the rug. With this being well before the events of No Way Home, maybe we get to see the lawyer mask up for some crime-fighting with Spider-Man. Now that he is set for Echo, a standalone series reportedly in the works and rumored for She-Hulk, the future is looking bright for the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year will release in 2024 on Disney Plus. A second season, Sophomore Year, was also announced. Daredevil’s next confirmed appearance in Echo will see him reunite with his enemy, Wilson Fisk. That series will also be on Disney Plus.
