The holidays kicked off today as Apple released a trailer for Spirited, its musical comedy with Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, and Octavia Spencer. It is a modernized twist on Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol with the humor that should be expected from the two leads from their comedy chops seen between films like Deadpool and Step Brothers.

Traditionally the story tells Scrooge’s life as he reforms after a visit from three ghosts. Instead, we see the tables turn in the Spirited trailer as Will Ferrell, as the Ghost of Christmas Present, visits Ryan Reynolds as Clint Briggs. He shows the ghost his life and has the Ghost of Christmas Present rethink his life to change the course of his future.

The film is co-directed and co-written by Sean Anders and John Morris, who collaborated on films like Daddy’s Home and Instant Family. They produce with the two leading actors. George Dewey, Jessica Elbaum, David Koplan, and Daniel Silverberg produce. Diana Pokorny, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul serve as executive producers.

We get a glimpse at the rest of the cast in the Spirited trailer. The two leads are joined by Octavia Spencer, Joe Tippett (The Morning Show), Aimee Carrero (She-Ra and the Princess of Power), and Sunita Mani (GLOW).

Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell continue their busy careers. In the near future, for Reynolds, he will star in Imaginary Friends, Deadpool 3, Everyday Parenting Tips, Dragon’s Lair, and Clue. Meanwhile, Ferrell is set to star in Strays, Barbie, The Prince of Fashion, and multiple untitled projects.

Apple will release Spirited on two different dates, one for streaming and the other for a theatrical run. It premieres in theaters on November 11 and goes worldwide to be streamed on Apple TV+ on November 18.
