The Academy Awards often snub horror films, even ones that are deserving of recognition. Bloody Disgusting is making sure it gets some, or if not, then it makes for a great joke. The outlet has submitted Terrifier 2 for an Oscar consideration.

Co-founder of the site, Brad Miska, wrote that it “will never actually happen” when it comes to a nomination. He cited the idea of the voters of the Academy Awards having to watch “an extreme unrated horror movie” that would likely be “beneath them” is “too hilarious of an opportunity to pass up.”

2022’s most shocking movie, Terrifier 2, has an Oscar consideration campaign

2022 has been a stellar year for horror. We have seen hits from classic franchises come back from the grave, like Scream, Prey, and Hellraiser. Meanwhile, original horror movies like Smile, Nope, X, and The Black Phone have been bloody hits. Terrifier 2 being asked to have an Oscar nomination might be a joke, but the film is not. The gory movie that has had people passing out and vomiting has been slashing the box office. This low-budget sequel to a 2016 dud has been playing in major theaters and has grossed almost $8 million from a budget that was less than $1 million. It has become one of the biggest hits for an unrated horror film that has seen no cuts around its gore and shock factors.

The film was directed and written by Damien Leone, who directed the first film and the 2011 short of the same concept. The film follows the return of Art the Clown, who hunts a teenager and her brother on Halloween. It stars Lauren LaVera, David Howard Thornton, Jenna Kanell, Catherine Corcoran, Elliott Fullam, and Chris Jericho.

The joke of asking the Academy to consider Terrifier 2 for an Oscar can be campaigned on social media. Bloody Disgusting encourages people to tweet at the Academy Awards with the hashtag #OscarsForArt.
