The Good Place and Nine Perfect Strangers star Manny Jacinto has been cast in The Acolyte, an upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series. He will star with Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim). The latest casting news was originally reported by Deadline.

Currently, details on the characters for Manny Jacinto and the others for The Acolyte are under wraps. From what is known about the plot, it is a mystery-thriller that steps into the Dark Side. It takes place during the final stretch of the High Republic, putting itself at least 100 years before the events of Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) will write, direct, executive produce, and act as the showrunner for the series.

Manny Jacinto cast in The Acolyte Star Wars Disney+ series

The streaming service has been making a push for various Star Wars projects across animation, like The Bad Batch and Visions. It has also included hit live-action shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. As The Acolyte builds its cast with Manny Jacinto and the other stars, it sets itself for one of several upcoming projects. Andor, The Mandalorian season 3, and Ahsoka are some of the high-profile upcoming shows that are around the corner, with Andor releasing on September 21 on the platform. No release date is expected for Headland’s series as it is currently in pre-production.

The Acolyte is not the first major IP that Manny Jacinto has been attached as earlier this year, he was in Top Gun: Maverick. Other notable projects for him have been the sitcom The Good Place and Hulu’s star-studded drama Nine Perfect Strangers. He is currently lined up to star in the drama The Knife, the comedy Cora Bora, the sports thriller Balestra, and the family-friendly cartoon Hailey’s on It!
