The latest iteration of the Batman movie was officially released on Friday, March 4th. This gritty adaptation of DC Comics’ iconic superhero already has theater chains and Warner Bros cheering in response to all the money they are making. According to numbers from The Hollywood Reporter, The Batman is currently on track for a $120 million opening weekend at the box office, and from just Friday and Thursday night premieres, The Batman earned $57 million at the box office.
As of March 4th, The Batman is screening in 74 different markets. However, due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, the film is being withheld from Russian cinemas. This will undoubtedly have an effect on The Batman‘s global box office numbers. Fortunately, The Batman‘s box office gross should receive a significant boost on March 14th when the movie opens in China.
Part of the reason for The Batman‘s impressive box office totals is due to an experiment by AMC Theaters. The large theater chain is currently testing variable pricing with Batman’s latest movie. Throughout the U.S., AMC theaters are charging anywhere from $1 to $1.50 more for a ticket to The Batman than they are charging for other movies playing at the same time. However, this up-charge is likely even greater for showings in larger theaters, such as IMAX theaters.

The Batman is the 12th live-action Batman movie to be made. This version focuses on Batman’s earlier days as a crime fighter. It features actor Robert Pattinson in the lead role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and Jeffery Wright as James Gordon. The movie was directed by Matt Reeves and written by Matt Reeves and Peter Craig.
