Disney+’s latest Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, is set to arrive on the streamer on December 29, 2021. To celebrate the series’ arrival, a premiere event was previously scheduled for January 4th, 2022 at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. However, according to a report from Variety, the premiere event has been postponed due to the recent COVID surge in the United States. The event will now be held at the El Capitan Theatre on February 8, 2022 instead. Due to the delay, The Book of Boba Fett premiere event will shift focus and celebrate the season finale — rather than the series’ debut.
Guests expected at The Book of Boba Fett premiere event included several individuals who were close to or working on the project. This includes Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy, and Ming-Na Wen. Whether they will choose to attend the postponed premiere event has not been disclosed.
The Book of Boba Fett premiere is not the only large event being affected by the recent surge of COVID cases in the United States. The Palm Springs International Film Festival and awards gala has been canceled, the National Hockey League (NHL) has paused their current season until after Christmas Day, and the National Football League (NFL) was recently forced to postpone three of their week 15 games. Sadly, there are likely even more delays and cancellations to come for U.S. events due to COVID.
Thankfully, even without a premiere event, The Book of Boba Fett is still set to release its first episode on December 29th. The series is set to follow the bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) along with his partner, Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), as they navigate the Star Wars galaxy’s underworld and claim Jabba the Hutt’s old territory.
